Additional Payments

To Grooms

  • An ex-gratia payment of £150 to be paid to grooms, with a maximum of two payments per horse.

  • A list of all grooms that enter into the racecourse stables at the meeting will be produced by the BHA. This list will be used as the sole basis for making any additional payments.

  • The list will include the employer of each groom, which will be used to calculate the number of payments to be made to each employer (or trainer). A maximum of two payments will be made per horse.

  • Once the list has been shared with the racecourse, the payments will be made to employers through their Weatherbys or BHA account within four days of the meeting. It is not possible to issue communication to employers regarding the payment, so it will be incumbent on the employer/trainer to check their account.

  • In the event that an employer chooses to opt out of receiving these payments, additional payments will not be issued for any groom they employ that attends the meeting.

To Jockeys

  • An ex-gratia payment of £100 will be made to all professional and apprentice riders who have at least one ride at the meeting.

  • In addition, any participating professional or apprentice rider who has just one ride at the meeting will also receive an ex-gratia payment that equates to two additional riding fees (currently £315.80). Any professional or apprentice rider who has just two rides at the meeting will receive an ex-gratia payment that equates to one additional riding fee (currently £157.90). For the avoidance of doubt, owners will not pay additional amounts to the Professional Riders Insurance Scheme or Career Ending Insurance in relation to these ex-gratia payments.

  • No deductions will be made from any of the ex-gratia payments made to jockeys outlined above other than where a jockey has an arrangement in place that involves a share of ‘all income’ being paid to their agent. In such situations, the relevant share will be paid to the agent.

‘BLANK RACES’ -UPDATED 20th DECEMBER 2023

A number of blank races have been left in the programme, which will be updated nearer to the race date. These have been introduced for 2024 in order to provide flexibility within the programme for races which may be required to meet any short-term demand.

Such races will appear as “Interactive Race” in the calendar and on Racing Admin, with race details confirmed approximately two weeks ahead of the fixture.
