The courses are mandatory and early application is recommended. Applicants are reminded that they MUST achieve Level 3 Diploma in Work Based Racehorse Care and Management/NVQ Level 3 in Racehorse Care and Management PRIOR TO ATTENDING MODULE 1 and are advised to contact the British Racing School (01638 665103) or National Horseracing College (01302) 861003 to register for this WELL IN ADVANCE OF ATTENDANCE ON THE COURSE.

The British Racing School introduced a Work Riding and Horse Assessment Course in 2007 to help improve the standard of riding in the workplace.
The course is intended to provide individuals with guidance and advice on how to develop their work riding and horse assessment skills. The course is run over two afternoons (to accommodate Newmarket Stable Staff) and just the 2nd day or non-Newmarket Stable Staff. A 2 day training and assessment course for new Amateur Riders wishing to ride under the Rules of Racing will be held at the British Racing School and the Northern Racing College on the following dates:

The Conditional Jockey’s Course takes place over a two week period.
Prior to being accepted on the licence course, new applicants and those holding Category ’A’ Amateur Permits must successfully complete a one-day Pre- Assessment at either the BRS or NHC. Pre-assessment days are held 6 weeks before the licence course. In order to book a place on the Pre-Assessment, please contact the BHA Licensing Team on 020 7152 0145.
Once the Pre-assessment has been successfully completed, the BHA will review reports and confirm course bookings to successful applicants.
The two-week Conditional Licence Course will be held on the following dates:
February 24th - March 6th at the British Racing School

Individuals who currently hold a Category ’B’ Amateur Rider’s permit and wish to attend the Conditional Course, will not be required to attend a Pre-Assessment and will only be required to attend the second week of the Conditional Jockey’s Licence Course.
The Conditional Licence and Amateur Category B Courses are combined. The course is open to any rider wishing to take out a Category B permit subject to the existing pre-qualifying conditions and for potential Conditional Jockeys. The next course will be held on the following dates:

The Foundation Course is a 10-week residential Level 1 Diploma in Work Based Horse Care followed by a two-week induction into the racing industry and the commencement of a Foundation Apprenticeship which includes a Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Racehorse Care. The Advanced Apprenticeship Programme which includes a Level 3 Diploma in Work Based Racehorse Care and Management is open and free to anyone under 25 who are EU nationals and working at least 16 hours per week. This highly valued, industry recognised qualification is designed to train the managers and senior staff of the future.

You will spend the whole day with the Finance Director of The British Racing School learning about book keeping in a racing yard. The second day of the course will be spent learning about the accounts programme SAGE. This course is suitable for existing secretaries or anyone considering working as a racing secretary, who would like to improve their CV and make themselves invaluable to a trainer.
