Elwick Stud

2014 saw Elwick Stud expand to Sheraton Farm. Set in over 200 acres of County Durham countryside, the previously arable land has undergone major development over the last two years to allow Elwick Stud to continue to grow.

All the fields have been refenced with post and rail paddocks, surrounded by gated walkways to ensure the safety of our horses and staff. This also makes maintaining the hedges an easier task.

Four state of the art, light and airy barns have been built during the development homing our spacious stables and foaling boxes, alongside two loose barns.

Two all-weather arenas and an all-weather lunge ring with viewing platform give a facility for any weather for riding or turnout.

2016 concluded with the completion of our stallion facility, allowing Mondialiste to enter stud here when his racing days are over.

Lanwades

Lanwades is thought to be so named for a wadingplace through the river Kennett, which flows across the stud’s land. The stud was founded well before the 1880s and at that time encompassed also what is today our neighbour, The Animal Health Trust. The good stallions PETRARCH and KNIGHT OF THE GARTER were advertised as standing at Lanwades in the 1881 Racing Calendar.

Throughout the current ownership, Lanwades has been expanded and its facilities continually improved. With the addition of St Simon Stud in 1982, Staffordstown in Co. Meath, Ireland, in 1990, and parts of Meddler Stud in the late 1990s, Lanwades nowadays encompasses nearly 1,000 acres of prime grassland in Newmarket and Ireland.

Epsom Derby winner and Gr.1 sire NORTH LIGHT stood at Lanwades for 2014. In 2015 the first son of SEA THE STARS to retire to stud, the sensational German Derby winner SEA THE MOON, joined Lanwades. In 2017 Gr.1 Breeders' Cup Truf Sprint winner, BOBBY'S KITTEN, joined the stallion roster. BOBBY'S KITTEN is the first stallion son of KITTEN'S JOY (Champion Turf racehorse and multiple Champion sire in USA) to stand in Europe.

Rathbarry & Glenview Studs
